We are making a book called “Why We Voted Leave”, which will be a collection of individual accounts of how people made up their mind before voting in the 2016 EU Referendum.
We think that having such a collection is valuable for posterity so that these views, our views, are not forgotten. Please forward the link to this webpage to appropriate people you know.
Aim
Our aim is to create an anthology of essays written by people who in 2016 supported Leaving the EU and who now still support Leave outlining ‘why I supported Leave’. Most people will probably have had similar reasons, but everyone will have made up their own mind in a different way, and those individual stories are interesting and worth recording for posterity; otherwise all that will remain on the record is the views of a very small number of well-connected individuals in the media and politics.
The book will be published digitally, with paper copies being printed when there is a demand for this. The objective is to share and preserve the views of normal grassroots Leavers, not to make any money from this.
Theme
What we would like to ask of you as a contributor is to write in your own words what your reasons were in 2016 to support Leave and how you came to your decision to support Leave and/or how you came to your attitude towards the EU and the UK’s membership of the EU. Please write at least three hundred words, and please don’t exceed a few thousand words.
Additionally we would like to ask that you write a small biography of yourself (no more than 300 words), which will accompany your contribution.
We are not planning to include any photographs of the contributors. Even really photogenic ones, which of course is all of you!
Style
Please write your contribution in your own words and to the standard of a letter to the editor. We’ve created a Contributor Guide with more detailed information. The recommended formats are to email a text or MS Word file; there is no need to do lots of formatting: we are going to take care of the typesetting for all the essays together ourselves.
Images, schematics, diagrams
If you would like to include any graphics, please see the Contributor Guide. Also, if you’re interested in helping out with artwork for the front cover, please drop us an email too.
Copyright
As a contributor you should license the copyright in your contribution, under a Creative Commons Attribution licence; this is similar to how Wikipedia contributions have to be licensed. It is not a copyright assignment, but still enables widespread distribution while ensuring authors get credit. The book is not expected to make any kind of profit or money: an electronic version will be available for free.
